This tool converts the weight of sinkers between g (gram), oz (ounce), and go (号, the same as monme 匁). You can enter fractions, and the closest gan-dama (ガン玉, split shot) and waribishi (割りビシ, split sinker) sizes are shown at the same time. Select a tab to see the charts. What you enter is processed only in your browser.
The ratings in this tool (G1, B, 2B, and so on) are Japanese gan-dama (ガン玉) ratings. They differ from the split shot sizes used in other countries.
Note: You can enter fractions such as 1/8 or 1+1/4. When the unit is oz, the phone keyboard switches to text input.
For gan-dama (ガン玉, split shot) and waribishi (割りビシ, split sinkers), the closest size to the measured averages in the Gan-dama and Waribishi tabs is shown. ≈ means approximate, and "Between 2B and 3B" means a weight between those two sizes.
Weights may differ by maker. Please use them as a guide.
Go (号) number × 3.75 g (for eggplant-shaped (ナス型), Odawara-type (小田原型), hexagonal (六角), and jet-tenbin (ジェットテンビン) sinkers, and others)
| Go (号) | g | oz (fraction) | oz (decimal) |

One go (号) is the same as one monme (匁). In English, monme is also spelled "momme". Values differ slightly by maker.

This follows the lineup of products marked in grams, such as tai-rubber (タイラバ) lures and jig heads. It is based on a check of the lineups at 5 stores.
Conversion chart for products marked in ounces (up to about 300 g)

Some lures are marked in oz, but they are becoming less common.
Reference weights of gan-dama (ガン玉, split shot) and jintan (ジンタン) (average of measured values)
In the G series, a larger number means lighter (G10 is lighter than G1). In the B series, a larger number means heavier (6B is heavier than B).
| Size | g | oz | ≈ Waribishi | Notes |
|---|
The go (号) numbers of gan-dama (G1, G2, and so on) are not the same as the go numbers in the Go chart (1 go = 3.75 g).
Ten pieces were placed on a scale, and the total was divided by 10 to get the weight of one piece. This was repeated 10 times, and the average is shown.
Weights vary by maker. ≈ means approximate.
Reference weights of waribishi (割りビシ, flat split sinkers) (average of measured values)
Larger sizes are heavier. The sizes correspond to the sinker load ratings of electric floats. The size marks are: XXS = 極小, XS = 小々, S = 小, M = 中, L = 大, XL = 大々, XXL = 特大.
| Size | g | oz | ≈ Gan-dama | Notes |

How to Use
This tool converts the weight of sinkers between g (gram), oz (ounce), and go (号, the same as monme 匁). Select a tab to switch between conversion and the charts.
Converting a Value (Convert Tab)
- Enter the value you want to convert in the “Number or fraction” field. You can enter fractions such as 1/8 or 1+1/4.
- Choose the unit of the value you entered (g, oz, or go (号) / monme (匁)) from the “Unit” menu.
- The results in g, oz, and go (号), and the closest gan-dama (ガン玉, split shot) and waribishi (割りビシ, split sinker) sizes, appear below at the same time.
When you tap (click) the input field, the value in it is selected. If you type without deleting it, the new value replaces it. Enter a value greater than 0 and no more than 100,000. When the unit is “oz”, the phone keyboard switches to one that can type “/” and “+”.
Viewing the Charts
Select the “Go chart (号)”, “Gram chart”, “Oz chart”, “Gan-dama (ガン玉)”, or “Waribishi (割りビシ)” tab to see each chart. You can also switch tabs with the left and right arrow keys.
Reading the Screen
- Convert tab: If the oz result is close to a fraction, both the fraction and the decimal are shown. For gan-dama and waribishi, the closest size to the measured averages in the Gan-dama and Waribishi tabs is shown. “Between 2B and 3B” means a weight between those two sizes. “Lighter than G10” and “Heavier than 6B” are outside the range of the chart.
- Guide values: A list showing how fractions of an ounce and 1 go (号) correspond to grams (1 go = 1 monme (匁) = 3.75 g).
- Go chart (号) tab: The weight is the go number multiplied by 3.75 g.
- Gram chart tab: A conversion chart for commercial sinkers and lures marked in grams.
- Oz chart tab: A conversion chart for products marked in ounces, up to 10+1/2 oz (297.7 g).
- Gan-dama (ガン玉) and Waribishi (割りビシ) tabs: Averages of measured values. “≈ Waribishi” and “≈ Gan-dama” show the closest weight match.
- Waribishi size marks: XXS = 極小, XS = 小々, S = 小, M = 中, L = 大, XL = 大々, XXL = 特大 (the Japanese marks on the products).
- “≈”: Approximate. There is a small difference.
- “—”: Nothing corresponds.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Are Go, Gan-dama, and Waribishi Called in English?
Go (号) is a Japanese weight number, and it is the same as monme (匁). In English, monme is also spelled “momme”, and 1 momme is 3.75 g. Gan-dama (ガン玉) are split shot (small split sinkers). Jintan (ジンタン) is a name used for the G1 size. Waribishi (割りビシ) are flat split sinkers. This tool uses the Japanese names, and gives the English description beside them.
Are Go (号) and Monme (匁) the Same?
Yes. A go number is the same as monme. 1 go (1 monme) is 3.75 g.
Is the Go Number of Gan-dama G1 the Same Weight as a 1 Go Sinker?
No. The go numbers of gan-dama (G1, G2, and so on) are different from the go numbers in the Go chart (1 go = 3.75 g). G1 gan-dama weighs 0.40 g.
Can I Enter Fractions of an Ounce (Such as 1/8)?
Yes. Enter “1/8” or “1+1/4” (1+1/4 means 1 and 1/4). Decimals such as 0.125 also work. The list of fractions is in the Oz chart tab.
How Were the Gan-dama and Waribishi Weights Measured?
They were measured by hand. Ten pieces were placed on a scale, and the total was divided by 10 to get the weight of one piece. This was repeated 10 times, and the average is shown in the charts.
The Chart Weight Differs from the Marking on My Product.
Weights differ by maker. Please use them as a guide.
Nothing Appears When I Enter a Value.
Check that the field is not empty, 0, or over 100,000. Enter fractions in the form “1/8” or “1+1/4”. A fraction with a denominator of 0 cannot be entered.
Notes
The ratings in this tool (G1, B, 2B, and so on) are Japanese gan-dama (ガン玉) ratings. They differ from the split shot sizes used in other countries.
Weights may differ by maker. Please use them as a guide.
The weights of gan-dama and waribishi are averages of measured values. “≈” means approximate.
